Testimonials

"All of us would like to say thank you to all your staff and volunteers who have helped us place dogs over the years. We are a small shelter in a community of 26,000 and there just aren't enough homes for all the dogs that come through our doors. We wanted to tell you how much we appreciate all that you do to make the world a better place for animals. You go above and beyond to make us feel welcome when we transport dogs to you."

"I have had the chance to work closely with key leadership at Animal Humane Society over the past year. As founding members of the new animal welfare coalition, the Minnesota Partnership for Animal Welfare (MnPAW), we come together, often with different viewpoints, perspectives, strengths and weaknesses... yet what unites the founding members of MnPAW is the shared goal of reducing the euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats. I have had the chance to work closely with Janelle Dixon and Kathie Johnson in the past year. They, along with others in the coalition, have demonstrated through their actions that we can work together in a positive, collaborative and respectful manner. As a coalition, we have worked hard to truly listen to each other and to have an open mind and open heart as we strive collectively to create a more humane world for animals and to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats.

Only by working together and building on our common ground, can we be a stronger force and a more powerful voice for the animals. As a representative and on behalf of the Pet Haven board of directors, we are proud to be a part of a MnPAW and to be partnering with Animal Humane Society."

“This organization has evolved and progressed in so many ways in the last 15 years. From advances in medical care for the shelter animals to dog training classes for the public to the merger of three organizations into one to business opportunities like Now Boarding to new partnerships with other animal welfare agencies... the list goes on and on. It’s the culture of “what more can we do?” that makes working here exciting and hopeful.”

“I have worked directly and indirectly with the Animal Humane Society since 2003. In working with various employees and volunteers, I have interacted with people who have a passion for animals and who do their best every day to deal with the seemingly insurmountable challenge of finding homes for every pet. I commend the AHS, under the leadership of Janelle Dixon, for its openness to working together in finding solutions to the pet overpopulation problem in Minnesota. Through the Minnesota Partnership for Animal Welfare (MnPAW), various relationships with local animal welfare organizations and businesses, spay and neuter programs, and other venues, I have every confidence that the AHS will be part of the solution.”

“If not for AHS responding to the need here in Oklahoma, adoptable homeless pets would have died. With no resources here in our rural communities, homes are not available. The outcome for these would be death. AHS has given new hope and life to an otherwise sad reality here in Oklahoma. If they had not responded to an email that was sent out in desperation and need, over 1,000 precious lives would have been lost. Thank you AHS for giving our homeless pets the opportunity to know what it is to have a life!”

“I was a second-year vet student at the University of Minnesota when we had the annual spay/neuter labs. The day I went to meet the kitty I was to be neutering, I pulled him out of the cage and set him on the exam table. He sat there, looked up at me, then put both front paws on my shoulder and rubbed his face up against mine as if to say "I choose you to be my new mom." I melted. Foster came to his new forever home with my husband and me and has shown us what a truly wonderful, affectionate cat he really is. We are so thankful that we were able to add him to our little family. Thank you for helping us with the adoption process and sending such a spectacular kitty our way!”

“Twelve years ago when I was 15 years old I had saved all summer from babysitting so that I could have my first dog. We adopted a nine-month-old female black and tan coon hound/lab mix from your shelter we later named Moose. She became more than a pet to our family and she became more than just my dog. She was our family. Moose was there the day we brought my niece home from the hospital… Moose was there through deaths, births, surgeries and weddings… Moose was the best thing that ever happened to our family. Because of all you at the humane society I was able to have a best friend for 12 wonderful years. Thank you for giving us the honor of being Moose's owners. Without people like you there would be so much less joy in the world.”

“I just wanted to send a thank you to your staff and volunteers. We brought home Mona, now Sunshine, on Sunday and she has already melded right into our family and is bringing us such joy! She is my running partner, and our 4 yr old says he loves her and that she is the best dog in the whole world. Thanks to each of the folks who helped us meet her and make the decision to bring her home and also thanks to your organization for being such a wonderful resource.”

“We adopted our kitten Briggs from the Golden Valley location. I cannot say how pleased I am with the wonderful kitten that we have! He had originally come in as part of an unwanted litter. He had an ear infection and ear mites so severe that he suffered permanent damage to the vestibular nerve that runs near his inner ear. But what a delightful cat despite all of that! We have three young children who he is extremely tolerant of. Briggs has just been a wonderful addition to our family. Thank you for taking him in and treating and caring for him until we were able to make him part of our home.”

“When I adopted Suka, he had been at your shelter for approximately four months. Suka is very kind and gentle and loving. He loves to be touched and always goes up to people hoping they will pet him. I just adore Suka and so does my parrot, Porgy, also a find at a shelter (but from Kansas). I was truly blessed to have Suka become a part of my life! Thank you for taking such good care of him during his stay at your shelter.”
