MISCONCEPTION: Animal Humane Society receives tax dollars from the government

Truth:
We’re self-supporting. We don’t get entitlement funds from city, county, state or federal sources.

Animal Humane Society does contract with cities to provide impound housing in support of their animal control services. This could be confused with government funding, but in fact it is a fee that the city pays to Animal Humane Society for services provided to their city. In fact, only $38,000 of our total operating budget comes from such fees—that’s less than half of 1%!

Most of the funds necessary to operate our organization are raised through donations and bequests, adoption fees, merchandise sales in our adoption centers and annual special events such as Whisker Whirl, the Walk for Animals and the Fall Wine Dinner.
