MSP article on the "no-kill" bill

January 5, 2012

In this month's issue, Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine ran an article written by Senior Editor Tad Simons titled, “No-Kill Bill – A proposed law could save thousands of dogs and cats but animal-control agencies are against it. Why?” Unfortunately, the article gave credence to Animal Ark's misguided opinions of our work and did not provide an accurate understanding of the complexities of Animal Humane Society’s work in historically caring for more than 30...

AHS's opposition to MNCAPA

November 4, 2011

The “Minnesota Companion Animal Protection Act” (MNCAPA) would force sweeping changes to every animal shelter in the state.

MNCAPA is based on impractical and unproven ideas about how shelters must be run. Its unreasonable requirements will hurt Minnesota animals; therefore, Animal Humane Society does not support this bill.

AHS: Sharing realities of pet homelessness with the community to do more for animals

November 9, 2010

For more than 130 years, Animal Humane Society has strived to be a place that meets the needs of every animal, but the reality is that far more animals are being surrendered to its five shelters than the community is willing to adopt. Because of this disparity, euthanasia exists.

To alter this imbalance, Animal Humane Society is asking the community to partner with them to reduce animal homelessness through an initiative it has called...

United effort needed to pass puppy mill legislation

Thursday, May 13, 2010

As the 2010 session of the Minnesota Legislature draws to a close, we are reminded of the effort we’ve put forth with a Coalition of more than 15 Minnesota animal welfare organizations, supporting lobbyists and passionate community members to pass the Dog and Cat Breeder Bill, better known as the Puppy and Kitten Mill Bill.

The Puppy and Kitten Mill Bill would have allowed authorities to proactively respond to acts of inhumane breeding by...
